The History of Cell Biology
(Introduction)

Too many colleagues forget what is already known in scientific literature. Acting as independent researchers they have ignored the findings of their predecessors. I discovered by searching the Internet that web-sites often include contradictory descriptions of the same facts or events. If study of scientific history was adequately funded, we would be compelled to write it anew.

I would like to try solve at least a small part of this problem, so I have created a web-page depicting the history of cell biology for "The International Federation for Cell Biology" and would like to ask the Internet Community to enhance some of my descriptions. I would be grateful for any input concerning important facts of the history of cell biology, however interesting theories are welcomed too. Everyone's help, including librarians, would be greatly appreciated.

Even what seem to be insignificant historical problems need collective participation to be accurate, and I ask future assistants to examine all the facts and documents etc.

Thank you all in advance,
Dr. Vladimir Matveev
